2004 String Olympics Review from Cathy Learoyd

The Olympics was quite a success last night. The kids LOVED the medals.
The opening ceremony was almost the best part. I found a CD of the Olympic Theme
(the one ABC sports used). I had made a  String Olympics flag (rounded C G D A E in
different colors and interlaced like the five rings) and flags for the four teams --
     Republic of Frogland,
     Into-Nation,
     United Semi-quavers, and the
     Kingdom of Dal Segno.
I played the CD over the big speakers in the Sanctuary as we had the parade of the
athletes. It was the best part of the evening for me and big grins all round.

The events went well and everyone achieved a medal --
     13 Bronze,
     10 Silver and
     14 Gold--
a good turn-out. With the gold medalist we all sang the Star Spangled Banner.

Then I engraved names on the back of the medals.  Its a great way to end the year.

Opening ceremony starts with the parade of
nations led by Dr. Dunnahoo carrying the
US flag.

United Semi-Quavers wait
to go into the Scales event.

The string athletes move into
the Sanctuary during the
opening ceremony.

All the string athletes at the opening ceremony
with the flags of the "nations"--Republic of
Frogland, Into-Nation, Kingdom of Dal Segno,
and United Semi-Quavers.

Dr. Dunnahoo gives Reiley
Matthews a tip on playing
Scales.

Judge Fred listens to Eric
Bowser clap the gold level
rhythm in the Rhythm event.

Ms. Caldwell leads the Into-
Nation to the Bowing event.

Ms. Learoyd times Evana
Toll 40 second single bow
in the Bowing event.

Jonathan Willing fiddles in
thumb position at closing
ceremony.
