Attendance Policy

Ensembles must rehearse together regularly to be successful. We hope the commitments made to the good of the orchestras by each student and their family will be the only encouragement needed for satisfactory attendance by HCYO members.

Rehearsals

• Monday night rehearsals are mandatory for all orchestra students.

• Students should be fully warmed up and ready to play by the rehearsal start time. (It is recommended you schedule 15 minutes for warm up.)

Everyone must be in their seat 10 minutes before rehearsal start time.

Dress Rehearsals

• Dress rehearsals are mandatory for students to maintain their scholarships for the following semester and their seating in the orchestra.

• Each fall and spring semester, HCYO students will be required to attend two or three scheduled Saturday or Sunday rehearsals. These dates are published on the website prior to the fall and spring semester.

Concerts

• All concerts are mandatory. Missing a concert is grounds for dismissal from HCYO and/or the scholarship program.

• Any student who misses a dress rehearsal may not, at the conductor’s discretion, be allowed to play in that concert.

• Section leaders cannot miss the final dress rehearsals prior to the concert date. If an absence occurs, they may be required, at the conductor’s discretion, to give up their leadership seat for the concert.

Absence

• Because scholarship funds are limited, scholarships can only be awarded and maintained for students with excellent attendance.

• In case of a family emergency the conductors are to be notified immediately and an explanation given. Excused absences are things which the child or family have no option of exercising control.

          • Excuses for absence include (but not limited to):

          • Illness
          • Serious illness or death in the family
          • Mandatory school event
          • Court mandated visitations

Excuses for absence do not include (but not limited to):

          • Family vacations
          • Extracurricular school activities
          • Studying for exams
      • Unexcused absences are not allowed and may result in termination of the scholarship program and/or
dismiss from HCYO.

      • If a student anticipates an absence, the student must notify the conductor prior to the missed rehearsal.

      • Absences will not be excused without a written note, fax or e-mail from the parent addressed to the facilitator at
321 Thompson Dr., 830-257-0835 or lynda@kfumc.org.

      • Rehearsals begin promptly at the time indicated on the rehearsal schedule. Tardiness or leaving early are counted as either an excused or unexcused absence as defined in the preceding paragraphs.
